5 Innovations That Will Reduce Distracted Driving Incidents

5 Innovations That Will Reduce Distracted Driving Incidents

Road safety has always been a major concern in the US, but the roads of America have become a lot more dangerous these past few years, and distracted drivers are a big part of the problem. In 2015 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention presented a report that detailed how, 3, 477 people were killed and 391,000 were injured in accidents involving a distracted driver.

Driven to Distraction published by the American Psychological Association explains that cell phone use while behind the wheel is one of the major causes of road accidents. The article explains that cell phone use is “associated with a four-fold increase in the odds of getting into an accident” because using a cell phone diverts a driver’s attention away from the road, and worse, compromises their driving skills. Even in-car technologies such as navigational displays and internet browsers are a cause for concern says the article. There are, of course, other distractions that have nothing to do with technology such as applying makeup, eating, and even reading.

Steps are now being taken to mitigate the deadly effects of distracted driving, and fittingly, technology is being implemented to keep drivers from getting distracted behind the steering wheel. These five innovations are all aiming to reduce distracted driving and make the roads of America much safer.

1. Hands-free connectivity – Bluetooth and similar technologies have been around for years, and these allow drivers to manage their phones without taking their hands off the steering wheel. These technologies are continuously being improved, and they are giving drivers a greater deal of control over their gadgets.

2. Apps against distracted driving – Cellular phone providers are now offering apps especially for drivers. These apps can send a pre-configured response—such as “I’m driving. I’ll get back to you later” for example—to text messages. It can also let the user interact easily with navigation systems like Waze or stream music with a single press of a button. USA Today writer Jennifer Jolly recommends DriveMode, which is available for both Android and iPhone.

3. Apps that can shut down phones – Jolly also notes that there are certain apps like tXt Blocker are perfect for parents with teen drivers. Such apps can be pre-configured to completely shut down a phone when the user is driving. It can also track teens while driving, with reports on how safely they are driving available as well.

4. Built-in driver assistance in vehicles – Car manufacturers themselves are now trying to address the issue of distracted driving by manufacturing vehicles with technologies such as forward collision and lane departure warning systems, autonomous emergency braking, and blind spot detection.

5. Electronic logging devices – This December a mandate that requires all commercial vehicles to be installed with an Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) will come into force. The ELD mandate is designed to stop commercial drivers illegally exceeding their Hours of Service, which in turn could lead to increased distraction through overdriving. Fleetmatics state that companies and drivers who do not comply will be heavily fined and possibly have their licenses revoked. The improved enforcement of Hours of Service will reduce the number of accidents involving commercial vehicles.

As these innovations show, there is no excuse for distracted driving. Here on Safe Rides we also state how easy it is to hire services that make it easy to avoid distracted driving. At the end of the day, though, drivers themselves hold the key to eradicating distracted driving.

Why Should You Choose Our Services Compared To Other Alternatives?

We so often hear about the problems and consequences related to drinking and driving.

At last,  a practical Safe Ride solution to avoid the troubles!

If you got a late night phone call, as I did, informing you that a dear friend, or perhaps someone in your family had just died in an alcohol related accident I can only imagine how distraught you might be at that point. When this happened to me I was devastated! For days I couldn’t think straight, I couldn’t work effectively, and I crawled into a hole. Then, I decided to “make lemonade out of a lemon.”

That is why I dedicated my efforts and created a Non Profit Organization designed around Safe Rides.  The main purpose of this Charity is to offer realistic and cost effective Safe Rides to the general public so they have a real alternative that is Safe, Fun and most importantly Extremely Affordable, instead of drinking and driving or driving drunk.  Our efforts are supported by many  bars, clubs and restaurants and also by some major venues in the NY, NJ, LA, Boston, Miami and Chicago.  Even thou our services were initially designed for nightlife, as we grew we learned there are alot more situations where an individual can be distracted while driving.  Today our services are available to anyone who wants to be safe and have the peace of mind.

Any person who is going out to a restaurant, bar, or club can go to our website www.SafeRides.org to get free instant quotes, vehicles and also arrange to be picked up from their house and delivered to and from their desired establishment. To show our appreciation we offer extremely discounted rates to encourage the responsible decision. This is a simple and direct (practical) program that, thus far, has met with great success. But, we can and must do better! That’s why I’m writing you.

Our stated purpose as mentioned is to offer people who want to be responsible with a safe cost effective and luxurious alternative to driving themselves.  I am writing you, however, for two reasons. First, to let you know about the Safe Ride Program and get your feedback as to what you think about the idea.  Second, to see if you would be willing to be part of our new Network, “Friends of Safe Ride.”

Our one simple request for your participation in our “Friends of Safe Ride” program is give us a chance to serve all your safe ride transportation needs. This will help us raise the funds needed to continually provide low and sometimes even free rides to those that should not be behind the wheel.  Our purpose is not to encourage over consumption.  That’s why we work with bars, clubs and restaurants to protect that from happening.
By working together as “Friends of Safe Ride” perhaps we can both avoid receiving any more late night phone calls!

Thank you, again. I remain,

Sincerely yours,

Party Hard, Party Smart! Only Use the Real SafeRides.org!

You may have been searching online for the best deals on party bus and limo rides in luxury vehicles. You may have been approached by someone that may say they are with SafeRides, and that they are going to give you a quality ride. Especially companies that disguise themselves at SafeRides.org. But you may not have known that they are NOT the real SafeRides.org.

The “fakers” are usually your local cab company registering with SafeRides in their name. Beware of them. Always ask who they are, where they are from, and what the company is about. Make sure if you are booking online it redirects to SafeRides.org. All rides are prearranged with SafeRides so you cannot call and order a cab last minute.

These counterfeit companies almost always provide horrible ride service that is far below how we doing things here at SafeRides.org. for example we do not do last minute calls, all our rides are booked online, so if you called someone and they claim to be SafeRides they are lying :).  If you see something wrong with your ride and the service provided be skeptical if the ride was actually provided by SafeRides.org. We strive to provide a top notch and friendly service. Please call us to confirm that in fact you used our SafeRide service. The reason we are a national Charity so when you search safe rides we come up and not those local little cab companies.  Please do not leave reviews unless you are certain you used us. We know of 2 companies out of Morristown area that have been giving people last minute rides pretending to be safe rides and then the customer left us review saying that we did not provide you with the best service.  Here is the Biggest giveaway that its not US is that we do not take last minute calls like cab company.  All our rides are pre-booked.  You cannot call us at 2am and request a ride.  If someone does do that than keep in mind you are getting a ride from one of the fake companies.

Please Remember, SafeRides.org is a 501 c 3 Charity, operating to provide the most cost effective way to be safe while having fun with friends and family. SafeRides offers cheap discounted rides in luxury vehicles ranging from a simple sedan all the way to a 55-passenger charter bus and everything in between to prevent drunk, distracted and tired driving.  Our SafeRide Charities efforts have been recognized by the State of New Jersey as one of the most effective non-profit organization providing realistic alternatives to drunk and distracted driving nationwide since 2005. https://saferides.org/images/resolution.jpg

Again, please be careful fellow SafeRides users for other companies claiming they are us. Do not book rides with them and if you do, we are not liable for the type of quality that service will provide for you.

Thank you for staying loyal with SafeRides.org!
